Short Stories
This page showcases short stories that I've written. The ones you see here are what I feel to be some of my best work, showcasing my skills as a storyteller and creative writer. I won't be too descriptive with the introductions -- I'll just let the stories speak for themselves! To give them a read, just click the corresponding story's PDF icon, and it will pop up in a new window for your viewing pleasure!
Thank you, and I hope you enjoy reading my stories!
Dreamwalker
(2021)
This short story was made for a Creative Writing class in college. To put it simply, it is a story about a girl who discovers she has paranormal abilities and takes advantage of her powers. I was inspired in part by middle/high school animated dramas, but there are also bits of thriller in here as well. I particularly like the character exploration in this one. Just to warn you: while I think it can be suitable for high school and maybe middle school students, there are some heavy themes and implications in this story, so reader discretion is advised.
Our Vermin
(2023)
This story was made for a Short Fiction class in college. We were assigned to base the idea of our story on a concept from another one of the short stories we've read. I chose to take inspiration from Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis, taking the basic concept of the classic science fiction tale and taking it in a new direction by shifting the main perspective of the story, telling it from the perspective of a husband and his wife. I don't want to spoil it too much -- all I'll say is that, unlike Klafka's story, I wanted this story to go full-on psychological horror, so you may feel a bit uncomfortable reading this tale.
Sour Bogart and the Shattered Window
(2024)
This story was written for a Detective Fiction class in college. This "short story" is among the longest works I have ever written -- long enough to be considered a novella, in fact! In this inversive take on gentlemen detective stories, the titular, apathetic Detective Raymond Bogart and his apprentice, the eager Alan Calibre, are tasked to help investigate a murder mystery in a countryside manor. In a twist on the classic great detective trope, Bogart's brilliance as a detective is juxtaposed by his apparent lack of passion for detective work and his apathy towards others.
This story is among my creative works that I'm the most proud of, with how it explores its themes and characters while also delivering an intriguing mystery to follow. I think adults of all ages may find enjoyment in this story, especially those familiar with classic detective fiction.
